(I know this is a common line with Bloggers of all sorts but…) It’s been a while since I’ve ported. Life has been Crazy. Cliché? Yes True? Definitely!
Anyway May 5th was that American Homebrew
Association’s Big Brew Day. Where the
AHA encourages homebrewers to gather in groups and brew mass quantities of beer
in homage to the hobby we all enjoy so much.
Mike and I had gone to a Big Brew event last year at a local
club (Before we joined BUZZ) and it was MASSIVE! The BUZZ event? Not so Much.
Although it was still a good time. There were about 5 tents, 8 brew stands, and
about 20 brewers all toiling away on there brews.
It was really cool getting to see how other people brew, discuss
processes, and compare notes. Mike and I
ended up giving quite a demonstration as we were the only team (read: Idiots) who
were brewing 2 all grain batches that day. Most teams with only brewing one. I brewed another batch of my Belgian Wit and
Mike brewed a American Pale Ale.
My Coffee stout and Mikes Belgian Tripel went over pretty
well with everyone who tried them but we did have some ice issues.
All in All we had a lot of fun. Wish there were more people and that we hadn’t
bitten off more than we could chew but it was still a good day. The weather was nice, the beer was good, and
the people were awesome. And since it
was the birthday of yours truly Redz and Kaylee (my wife and daughter) hung out
and had a good time as well.
We all look forward to Big Brew next year. This time I think we’ll do 1 ten gallon batch
instead of 2 full batches.
